WW1 Drama Project “Over By Christmas” at Gloucester Cathedral
Today Scene Change Arts worked with 85 pupils from Lydney C Of E Primary School in the fabulous settings of Gloucester Cathedral. The day started by setting the scene of WW1 and drilling the children in military commands. “Stand to attention!” “About turn!” The Children were split into two groups to re-enact “going over the top” in the man to man combat of trench warfare. The scene ends with a floor full of dead soldiers where one soldier stands, ”Tommy Atkins” and questions whether he is dead or not. The story then looks back over his life as he reminisces how he got there. The children all dressed in black put on a very confident performance at the end and all schools’ staff were impressed and moved by what they saw. One teacher commented “Amazing! A brilliant experience for us all. The final performance was very moving” A great day had by all and a good start to our “Over By Christmas” tour.
